Take Control of Fear Responses

Intense fears can affect commuting, social activities, professional responsibilities, and everyday choices. In Atlanta, specialized care can provide a structured setting for individuals seeking help for panic and avoidance behaviors. Treatment may combine cognitive behavioral strategies, relaxation exercises, and gradual exposure to help reduce the cycle between fear and avoidance. Each approach can be adapted to the specific trigger and the individual's goals. By learning how anxiety operates and practicing new responses, clients can become more comfortable handling situations that once felt unmanageable. The focus is practical progress, greater confidence, and improved daily functioning.

A Personalized Path Through Phobias

No two fears affect people in exactly the same way. Phobia treatment for adults and teens can be tailored around the triggers, anxiety patterns, and everyday challenges each person experiences. Therapy may address specific fears, social situations, panic responses, or avoidance that has gradually narrowed a person's routine. Cognitive behavioral therapy for phobias can help challenge unhelpful thinking, while other evidence-based techniques can support gradual behavioral change. A personalized plan gives clients opportunities to practice skills at a realistic pace, making it easier to translate progress in therapy into greater confidence outside the session.

I earned my Master's of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University in 1998, and I'm a member of the International OCD Foundation, as well as the Anxiety & Depression Association of America. I’ve worked at a number of sites, governmental and private, throughout my lengthy career, but private outpatient counseling and psychotherapy remain my first love.

Treatment Approaches

My goal is to provide services to individual adults using specialized treatment approaches, allowing the client and I to choose a therapeutic approach tailored specifically for them.

  • Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

This evidence-based approach considers OCD to be a reasoning disorder that results in obsessional doubts and compulsions. I-CBT achieves symptom relief by teaching clients to rely on their five senses and present moment experience. Through this approach, clients learn to trust themselves and what they know to be true rather than imagined possibilities. This treatment offers recovery without prescribed exposures.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which an individual confronts unwanted, distressing obsessional thoughts, urges, or images. During exposure, the individual does not engage in repetitive compulsions to reduce the associated discomfort. Through this process, the individual experiences a reduction in distress and/or learns that the associated level of fear is unfounded.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is another type of empirically-based CBT that focuses on living according to one’s values while using acceptance and mindfulness strategies to improve psychological flexibility.
