Move Toward Greater Freedom

Fear can limit personal and professional opportunities when certain situations become difficult to approach. In Austin, therapy for social and specific fears can help individuals work toward greater freedom from those restrictions. Treatment may address anxious thinking, physical reactions, and avoidance using cognitive, behavioral, and relaxation techniques. When appropriate, gradual exposure can provide structured opportunities to practice new responses. The process is individualized, allowing clients to work at a manageable pace while building confidence. The goal is to make anxiety more manageable and restore participation in activities that persistent fear has disrupted.

Learn to Challenge Fearful Expectations

Cognitive behavioral therapy for phobias can help individuals identify thoughts that make feared situations seem more dangerous or unmanageable. Therapy may examine catastrophic predictions and develop more balanced ways of interpreting anxiety. Behavioral strategies can complement this work by encouraging gradual engagement with challenging situations, while relaxation skills can help manage physical symptoms. Over time, clients can learn that feeling anxious does not necessarily mean they must avoid the situation. This shift can support greater confidence and more flexible decision-making in everyday life.

Treatment Approaches

My goal is to provide services to individual adults using specialized treatment approaches, allowing the client and I to choose a therapeutic approach tailored specifically for them.

  • Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

This evidence-based approach considers OCD to be a reasoning disorder that results in obsessional doubts and compulsions. I-CBT achieves symptom relief by teaching clients to rely on their five senses and present moment experience. Through this approach, clients learn to trust themselves and what they know to be true rather than imagined possibilities. This treatment offers recovery without prescribed exposures.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which an individual confronts unwanted, distressing obsessional thoughts, urges, or images. During exposure, the individual does not engage in repetitive compulsions to reduce the associated discomfort. Through this process, the individual experiences a reduction in distress and/or learns that the associated level of fear is unfounded.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is another type of empirically-based CBT that focuses on living according to one’s values while using acceptance and mindfulness strategies to improve psychological flexibility.
