Take Practical Steps Against Fear

Avoidance can make a phobia feel increasingly powerful, particularly when it prevents someone from participating in valued activities. In Kennesaw, therapy for overcoming fear and phobias can help individuals replace avoidance with practical coping strategies. Treatment may include cognitive techniques, relaxation methods, and gradual exposure tailored to the person's needs. Clients can learn how anxious thoughts influence physical reactions and behavior, then practice responding differently. Each step is designed to build confidence without rushing the process. Over time, individuals may find it easier to approach situations that previously seemed too difficult or threatening.

Reduce Avoidance, Expand Your Options

Help for panic and avoidance behaviors focuses on the patterns that can keep anxiety going. Therapy can help individuals identify what they do to escape discomfort and how those behaviors may limit their lives over time. Cognitive and behavioral strategies can provide alternatives, while exposure-based techniques may offer structured practice with feared situations. This work can be especially valuable when fear affects appointments, travel, social events, work responsibilities, or everyday errands. Developing a stronger response to anxiety can create more choices and help individuals feel less restricted by persistent fear.

Treatment Approaches

My goal is to provide services to individual adults using specialized treatment approaches, allowing the client and I to choose a therapeutic approach tailored specifically for them.

  • Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

This evidence-based approach considers OCD to be a reasoning disorder that results in obsessional doubts and compulsions. I-CBT achieves symptom relief by teaching clients to rely on their five senses and present moment experience. Through this approach, clients learn to trust themselves and what they know to be true rather than imagined possibilities. This treatment offers recovery without prescribed exposures.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which an individual confronts unwanted, distressing obsessional thoughts, urges, or images. During exposure, the individual does not engage in repetitive compulsions to reduce the associated discomfort. Through this process, the individual experiences a reduction in distress and/or learns that the associated level of fear is unfounded.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is another type of empirically-based CBT that focuses on living according to one’s values while using acceptance and mindfulness strategies to improve psychological flexibility.
