Regain Confidence in Challenging Moments

Persistent fears can affect confidence when individuals repeatedly avoid situations they would otherwise like to experience. In McKinney, phobia treatment for adults and teens can provide age-appropriate, individualized support for addressing these concerns. Therapy may focus on triggers, anxious thoughts, physical reactions, and avoidance through cognitive and behavioral strategies. Relaxation techniques can help manage distress, while gradual exposure may be used when appropriate. By learning practical responses and practicing them over time, clients can become more confident handling difficult situations at school, work, home, and in social settings.

Build Skills That Reduce Avoidance

Cognitive behavioral therapy for phobias can help individuals understand how thoughts influence emotional and behavioral responses. Therapy may identify fearful predictions and develop more balanced perspectives while also addressing behaviors that reinforce avoidance. Behavioral exercises can provide opportunities to practice new responses, and relaxation techniques can support physical regulation. When appropriate, gradual exposure may help clients gain confidence through direct but manageable experiences. This approach can help individuals become less controlled by fear and more willing to participate in activities that previously felt too difficult.

Treatment Approaches

My goal is to provide services to individual adults using specialized treatment approaches, allowing the client and I to choose a therapeutic approach tailored specifically for them.

  • Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

This evidence-based approach considers OCD to be a reasoning disorder that results in obsessional doubts and compulsions. I-CBT achieves symptom relief by teaching clients to rely on their five senses and present moment experience. Through this approach, clients learn to trust themselves and what they know to be true rather than imagined possibilities. This treatment offers recovery without prescribed exposures.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which an individual confronts unwanted, distressing obsessional thoughts, urges, or images. During exposure, the individual does not engage in repetitive compulsions to reduce the associated discomfort. Through this process, the individual experiences a reduction in distress and/or learns that the associated level of fear is unfounded.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is another type of empirically-based CBT that focuses on living according to one’s values while using acceptance and mindfulness strategies to improve psychological flexibility.
