Move Toward a Fuller Routine

Fear can gradually narrow a person's routine when certain situations, places, or experiences become difficult to face. In Newnan, phobia treatment for adults and teens can support individuals who want to regain activities that anxiety has interrupted. Therapy may address specific triggers, avoidance habits, anxious thinking, and physical responses through individualized strategies. Depending on treatment needs, gradual exposure and cognitive techniques can be incorporated. The goal is to help clients build practical confidence and become more comfortable participating in daily life, whether the challenge involves school, work, social activities, travel, or routine responsibilities.

Learn to Handle Fear Differently

Treatment for irrational fears and anxiety can help individuals move from simply enduring fear to developing a more effective response. Sessions may focus on recognizing anxious thought patterns, practicing grounding or relaxation, and reducing behaviors that reinforce avoidance. When appropriate, exposure techniques can help clients experience feared situations in carefully planned stages. The emphasis remains on learning rather than forcing immediate results. As skills improve, individuals may discover they can experience anxiety without allowing it to determine every decision, creating more flexibility and confidence in everyday situations.

I’ve worked at a number of sites, governmental and private, throughout my lengthy career, but private outpatient counseling and psychotherapy remain my first love.

Treatment Approaches

My goal is to provide services to individual adults using specialized treatment approaches, allowing the client and I to choose a therapeutic approach tailored specifically for them.

  • Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

This evidence-based approach considers OCD to be a reasoning disorder that results in obsessional doubts and compulsions. I-CBT achieves symptom relief by teaching clients to rely on their five senses and present moment experience. Through this approach, clients learn to trust themselves and what they know to be true rather than imagined possibilities. This treatment offers recovery without prescribed exposures.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which an individual confronts unwanted, distressing obsessional thoughts, urges, or images. During exposure, the individual does not engage in repetitive compulsions to reduce the associated discomfort. Through this process, the individual experiences a reduction in distress and/or learns that the associated level of fear is unfounded.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is another type of empirically-based CBT that focuses on living according to one’s values while using acceptance and mindfulness strategies to improve psychological flexibility.
